Puppy Bowl vs. Super Bowl? Puppies Win!

I’ll never get sick of Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl. As an alternative to last Sunday’s Super Bowl, Puppy Bowl—now in its fifth year—features a cast of puppies who, well, act like puppies in a play area made to look like a stadium. They’ve got football chew toys galore and free reign to frolic while an announcer gives play-by-play commentary. The Puppy Bowl even features a Tail-gate party, the Kitty Half-time Show (basically, a bunch of kittens acting like, well, kittens), and a referee to keep an eye on the action. And this year featured Pepper the Parrot singing the national anthem. Better still, all of the 2009 animal players came from a local shelter; Animal Planet’s hope is that the exposure would find them good homes. Check out Animal Planet’s web site for more infectious Puppy Bowl fun, including stats, highlights, and an interview with the ref. -Karen
